Germany 2005

Three children represented our club in a
team which went to the Asiana cup in February. There was
a team of 16 from all Quest clubs which took part in
the 2 day event.
They were Lauren Armitage 10yrs, Shannon Harris 9yrs and Callum Wheeldon 8yrs. They all fought very well over the 2 days in which Lauren took Our First Gold international medal with a win over a french player in the final. Shannon took a bronze as she got beat in the semi finals by a German player so we are looking for one step better in 2006. Callum got beat in the quarters but he gained a lot of experience as he was the lowest and youngest grade we took.
All together we took 1 gold, 2 silvers and 6 bronze from all the Quest G.B team players there.
coaches were Master Mckenzie , Shaun and Emma Haywood and Glen Warne
well Done to all and to next year 2006

GERMANY 2006

PRESIDENTS CUP

6 Children from Bradford represented the Quest Great Britain Team

which took part in the 11th int children’s championships

in Sindelifingen Stuttgart Germany. On the 4-5 of February,
And brought back 3 international Gold’s, 1Silver and 2 bronze.
For many of them this was there first international

The competition was run under W.T.F Olympic rules as Taekwondo is an Olympic sport and was part of the 2000 / 2004 games,

The competition was massive from previous years as it was open to 7 – 15 years this year not -13 years.

There were five rings and the competition was very hot for the medals as teams from Germany, Korea, American,

Spain Russia and many others from around the world competed to win international gold.

On day one Scott Porter, Alex porter and Jacob Barnett competed in the weight classes.

Scott 9years old from Low Ash Primary School beat a French Player in the Quarters and then in

his semi it went to 4-4 sudden death. After about a min of play Scott was unlucky to be beat,
He took a well dissevered Bronze.

Jacob 10yrs old from Baildon got beat in his quarter finals by a German Player but then took part

in the patterns competition and Beat two Koreans to win international gold and beat the

 founders at there own game.

9years old Alex Brother of Scott and also a student of low ash got through to the final of his weight

class. In this match he out classed a Dutch player to win his first international gold medal.

Day 2 started with 8year old Callum Wheeldon from High Crags school beat his first player 6-4 and

advancing to the semis. Is this match he just got beat by a Russian player. After being 6-1 down he

battled back to 7-5 and just run out of time when he had the Russian on the run.

Up next was Jenna Evans 13years old from Hanson School, what a day this young lady had as her

first match went to a 4-4 sudden death with a German Player and after a hard battle she took the

match to advance to the semis. There she took on another German and totally out classed the

girl winning with-in one minute, then to the final
She took on an Italian player and tried her best to win gold but the Italian girl was to quick

and beat Jenna 8-5. This was Jenna’s first international so more from this talented girl.

Last match of the day was the best with 11year old Kerrie Spencer from Yorkshire Marters took

on a home grown girl and local favourite in the final; this match got the crowd going as they cheered

on the girls. After a clash of skill and wills Kerrie’s spirit broke the German girls will and took gold for England.

After a successful two days these results should not be under mined as the emotional strain and

physical demands tested these young Olympic hopefuls to the limit.

Trainer and Coach Glen warne said this shows how well and how ambitious the young people

and athletes of Bradford are all they talk about is winning and London 2012. At this rate

and the hard work there putting in then who knows where they will be in 7 years time when the London Games Start.

We are also looking to get sponsors for these young athletes so if any business can

help to fund and give these talented kids help to get the international experience

they need pleases contact Glen Warne

Trafford and Park is lure to Koreans

Stretching out . . . the Korean students flex their mscles during their demonstration at Shipley Community Centre

Taekwondo may have been what brought them to the United Kingdom but one suspects that a trip to Old Trafford was never far from the minds of 45 South Koreans, 35 of whom were children.

Glen Warne, who admits to being a Liverpool fan, said: "They were aged between seven and 14 and every one of them was a Manchester United fan because of Korean international Ji-Sung Park.

"Among the trips we arranged for them was a visit to Skipton Castle - they wanted to see a king's house' - the National Media Museum in Bradford and Old Trafford."

Warne, chief instructor of host club Saber Taekwondo, said: "They had been to Germany for three days and Switzerland for two days prior to coming to us, and we hosted them either with club members, in hotels or in clubs.

"The brick-breaking exhibition by 8th Dan Grand Master Kim Dong Du at Shipley Community Centre went really well, but the patterns demonstrations by the youngsters opened the eyes of our children and their parents because the Koreans are so technically gifted.

"Each of the children, who were on a student exchange, were black belts with the World Taekwondo Federation, which is Olympic recognised

"Also the Korean Masters, who included university lecturer Master Kim 7th Dan and Master Park 6th Dan, a world-renowned patterns champion, taught our Saber students at Windhill Community Centre. Master Park has demonstrated in America, Europe and many other places."
